About the Artist
The First Half
of the Work
Tony Butcher is a Boscombe-based painter and poet working at the intersection of consciousness, symbolism, and human experience — completing, as he puts it, only the first half of every piece.
01 — Artist Statement
Many of his images hold more than one truth at once.
Tony Butcher is a Boscombe-based poet and fine art painter whose work explores the relationship between consciousness, symbolism, and human experience.
His practice draws on a broad range of influences — African art, Jungian psychology, mythology, literature, and artists such as Picasso, Chagall, and William Blake. The result is a visual language that is dense, raw, and charged with psychological energy.
Many of his images contain layered symbolism, visual ambiguity, and multiple possible readings, allowing viewers to discover different narratives depending on their own experiences and perspectives.
Butcher held his debut exhibition at Rhythm Basement Gallery, Boscombe, in November 2025, and is currently preparing his first major solo show, Straight from the Quantum Manifold, opening at Auger Collective in November 2026.
Next showing at Auger Collective, November 2026.
